When I was a child, I tried writing my first ‘grown-up’ novel; when I became a grown-up, I discovered the amazing world of children’s literature. Now I love both and I’m always excited about opportunities to share some of my experience, excitement and encouragement with students that may someday discover their heart is in literature, too.
If you are interested in hosting an author visit at your school (either single classroom or larger groups), please read the following information.

Because of my previous teaching background, I am most comfortable when I can interact with the children I’m speaking to. For this reason, I prefer to keep my talks to smaller groups (no more than 2 or 3 classes) and have more interaction during and after my presentation. . My talks run from 30-45 minutes, but can be adjusted to accommodate your schedule.
I generally try to keep the talk fairly simple for grades k-1and a little more complex for grades 2-4. If you wish to include grades 5-7, I will also do a few extra things in the presentation and can present some of my writing for older children.
Generally, my presentation focuses on the publishing process from idea to book, and includes some fun activities to get children thinking of their own story writing ideas and potential as writers. I am flexible, however, and if you would like another concept presented, I am willing to work within your structure.
My minimum charge for speaking to a school is $250.00. For this price, I will speak to one group, up to 60 primary or 100 intermediate students at a time. Every session after that is another $50. These prices are subject to change, so please confirm.
