Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection!

In June 2021, my new book, Arnold the Super-ish Hero is coming out and the Junior Library Guild has made it a Gold Standard Selection! This means that libraries and school all across the country will know that it’s passed a rigorous quality test by a very seasoned organization, highly trusted with children’s literature. I’m SUPER excited!

Arnold went through a lot of changes in the writing process (and a lot of names!) and the book that is coming to bookshelves is nothing like the story it began as, but it’s been an exciting journey for me —and Arnold!

I can’t wait to hear your thoughts. Drop me a note and let me know what you think!

Wanted: Criminals of the Animal Kingdom

My last book, Wanted: Criminal of the Animal Kingdom got some great reviews, but the children that it was meant for didn’t get a fair chance to see it since it was released about the same time as the COVID virus. It’s not too late though! You can still get your copy from bookstores, Kids Can Press or Amazon. And if your local library doesn’t have it, ask them to get it in. It’s a fun read for the animal lover in your household (or the child with a criminal mind)!

Thanks for reading and sharing!

NEW BOOK!

I've seen the final illustrations for my new book, Different? Same! and they're incredible (but you'll have to wait a little longer to see them)! Thanks to Pippa Curnick.  This is a non-fiction picture book - educational, interactive, and lots of fun (I hope)! Not sure yet the official release date. Stay Tuned.

Reading Lights of Vancouver

Yaay!  Stop Thief! was chosen to be posted on one of the street lamps of Vancouver.  It's a project started by the Vancouver Public Library to promote reading and BC authors.  If you've never been to the VPL, it's worth a trip there.  Get lost in the books.  You won't regret it!  I'll post a picture when the plaque is up.  Thanks Vancouver Public Library!

Blue Spruce Finalist!

Stop Thief! is a finalist for the Ontario Library Associations Forest of Reading Award!  Winner announced in May.  What an honour to be nominated.  If you live in Ontario, don't forget to vote!

Book Tour

This post took awhile, but I am back from my book tour across Southern BC.  Thanks to all the 10 schools and the Revelstoke Public Library that hosted us.  I had such a good time talking with over 700 great elementary school students and many teachers and principals as well.  If any of you are reading this, send me a line (or a picture you created).  I'd love to hear from you.

Come see me in Revelstoke, April 21

I'll be touring BC at the end of April and would love to meet you in Revelstoke at the public library, April 21 at 7pm!  I'll be there along with Kevin Chong, author of Northern Dancer:The Horse that Inspired a Nation.

Exciting news this week!!  Stop Thief! is a finalist for the Christie Harris Children's LIterature Prize!  Winner (5 finalists) will be announced at a Gala on April 25 (my anniversary - yaaay!)

My visit to Langley Fundamental...

Today I spent the day talking to six groups of students between kindergarten and grade 5 at Langley Fundamental Elementary School.  What a super group of kids!  Thanks so much to the teachers and staff for inviting me and thanks to all the terrific students who took part in my sessions and made my day so enjoyable!
